Metal Massacre III
May 4th 2008 23:28
So last night was the third annual Metal Massacre festival in Raleigh, North Carolina. The fest featured a nice selection of local talent, including Daylight Dies, who are currently signed to Candlelight Records. My band, Mysteriarch was among the bands on the bill.
The first band of the night, in my humble opinion, was not a metal band at all, but a 60s and 70s rock cover band by the name of Praetorius, they didn't generate a good turn out at all, there were about 5 people there to see
The second band to play this festival was Edward Teach, a local black/death metal band featuring members of several other local bands including Unholy Crusade. Their turn out was a lot better. I'd have to say they were one of the better bands of the evening.
Shadowrealm was the next band to play, an 80's metal cover band. They played a pretty good selection of 80's classics, and even closed with Accept's Balls to the Wall
My band was up next, Mysteriarch! We hit the stage at about 9:15 and right away the set didn't turn out like we wanted. However, we had the best turn out of the bands that had played so far. All in all, I'd say we did a good job, and the audience dug us pretty well.
Next up was Daylight Dies. Daylight Dies is a local Doom Metal band, and they're signed to Candlelight Records. Their set was killer, to say the least. The turn out to see them was the best for the entire night, which isn't surprising if you've heard these guys.
After that was Age of Despair, a local Heavy Metal/Melodic Thrash. They were pretty good. Seemed to be quite comfortable on stage, the audience liked them a good bit, so I'd say they were a success.
Omniscient played next, a black/death metal band from Wilmington North Carolina. Despite their delay due to a flat tire, they arrived and got set up on time. Their set would've been killer if not for the fact that the bass drum was mixed above every other instrument, making it almost impossible to hear the guitars and keyboards.
The Last band of the night was 'Frexon Zo!'. This band could easily be a pretty good Judas Priest cover band, if that gives you any idea on their sound. They played a mixture of originals and covers, including a (surprise) Judas Priest cover. The shocker here, is that they were all young, not one of them seeming to be over the age of 30. In fact, their guitar player looked to me like he could still be in High School. That being said, they were a decently talented act. Maybe not the best closing band, but a good band none the less.
When it was all said and done, we were all drunk as hell, and none of us had anything to complain about. So Metal Massacre III was a success, and I can't wait to play it again next year
Here's a video of my band's performance. We did mess up once or twice, but you know.. it happens.
